A post I’ve been wanting to do ever since “acne” is my new best friend. For a more in depth acne journey I will make a blog post in the future because the thought of posting those pictures online still scares me. Part of me also want to make that post to help those out there who needed it. Hope I’ll get pass my insecurity one day & finally have the guts to do it.
The reason why I decided to publish this post now is because I am going to run out on a few items in my current routine so before proceeding to a new routine I would love to make a review. I’ve been sticking to this routine for the past 4 months (in between making some changes because I ran out of some products & couldn’t get my hands on them right now).
I started this routine way back during July & all my products are from the brand “Dermaviduals” which I got from my beautician. With my weekly facial appointments + using these products I definitely saw a huge change in my skin. Even though it’s nowhere near perfect, still dealing with spots around time of the month and lots of hyperpigmentation from previous acne but I am proud of how far my skin have come! 🙂
So, let’s quickly jump right into it! 😀
Ever since getting acne about 2 years back, foundation and concealer are my best friend. I’m always on the hunt for good makeup remover & finally stumbled upon this 4 months ago. This Banila co. Clean It Zero Purity is a balm makeup remover. I got the purity version because their original version contain mineral oil which I am pretty skeptical about.
What I love about this makeup remover is that it melts on your skin when you apply and after washing it off it doesn’t leave a filmy residue like how some balm cleanser tends to do. My skin felt refreshed and clean after using this. I’m running really low on this which I am freaking out because I cannot get this brand here in Russia and I might need to resort to finding new makeup removers.
Every skincare routine starts off with cleansing no matter what skin type or concern you have. & I take cleansing very seriously because if you do not remove your makeup/dirt on your face properly, it does not matter even if you follow up with your expensive treatments/serums/moisturizers. I’ve been a huge fan of double cleansing ever since my beautician told me about it.
I always start with a pump of the Dermaviduals Cleansing Milk & massage the product onto my dry face. Then I wet my fingers and emulsify the product. & I do not wash off the product. Instead, I use a dry cotton pad & rub off the cleansing milk. It’s a tip from my beautician & I definitely swear by it. The amount of leftover makeup/dirt on the cotton pad! It took me by surprise seriously.
Next I’ll follow up with a cleansing gel in my shower. Previously I was using the Dermaviduals Cleansing Gel but I ran out of it last month so right now I am using the one from Kate Somerville.
Note: I only double cleanse in the evening. Every morning I’ll just go in with cleansing gel.
What saddens me even more is that I am also currently running low on this Kate Somerville Detox Daily Cleanser. 🙁 It’s a yellow liquid gel that smells super citrusy.
I’ve been using this Dermaviduals Face Tonic for the past 4 months but recently just ran out of it. So I went back to my all time favorite,Lush’s Breath of Fresh Air. For some reason I think this toner does help to keep my breakouts at bay. I’ve repurchased the bigger size for 2 times now & still loving it! 😀
Note: previously was using 2 treaments from Dermaviduals but ran out of them so had to make some changes.
I use this Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum every other night. I look forward to using this every time because I love how calm and good my skin looks the next day. While leaving this serum on for 10 minutes before moisturizing, I apply this Skinoren cream on places with spots and hyperpigmentations. You will not notice any huge difference within short among of time with this topical cream. It took me about a month to finally see some improvements. It definitely makes my spots less inflammed and lightens my hyperpigmentations over time.
With this two combination, I finally got rid of clogged pores aka under the skin bumps which is super annoying! So if you have those nasty bumps you want to get rid of, I definitely highly recommend looking into chemical exfoliants. A converter after seeing such amazing results compare to using physical ones.
Finally, my last step of my skincare routine. I’ve been using the Dermaviduals DMS Base Cream Classic for both day and night for 4 months now. & recently after posting the “products I regret buying” I decided to give this Aesop Elemental Facial Barrier Cream another go.
So for now I am using the Dermaviduals one in the morning, Aesop one at night.
I also try to make it a habit to at least do some mask twice a week. It’s kinda like my favorite part of the routine too especially when I’ve found the best ones for me!
By mid of the week = Wednesdays, I use Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque & leave on for about 20 minutes. When my skin is more troubled I will leave it on for 30 minutes. I cannot say enough good things about this mask! It’s featured in a few blog posts of mine & that is how much I love it!
& on Saturdays I will use this powder mask that I got from my beautician. I wish I knew the brand/name but unfortunately I don’t. Basically I add less than a teaspoon of this powder & a little bit of filtered water. Then I mix them together to create a paste and leave it on my skin for about 20 minutes. Before completely washing off the product, I wet my fingers and massage the product onto my skin. The powder acts as a physical exfoliant & my skin looks glowy and soft after washing it off. This mask also has anti-inflammatory properties & I definitely wake up to calmer skin the next day.
In short to sum up my skincare routine,
- Cleansing gel.
- Banila & co makeup remover.
- Cleansing milk.
- Cleansing gel.
- Mask (twice a week)
Lastly, I would also like to add that keeping myself hydrated all the time & a healthy lifestyle definitely helped my skin too. To use the correct products that are suitable for your skin concern is important, but diet and sleep cycles place an important role too! When you find yourself dealing with too much stress, do some simple yoga exercises. Or something as easy as going out for a walk/taking deep breaths. These are little tips that helped me.
I really hope this post will help somebody out there. I know what it feels like crying yourself to bed at night when your skin is at its worst. But trust me, things will get better one day. Sending lots of love to those that are reading this! 😀
