Initially I wanted to make a post on what I typically eat in a day but I realized this month I’ve been slacking on my eating habits thanks to my clinical cycle that makes me lazy and generally slacking off. Instead, I decided to share some tips I’ve learned over few months ago on healthy eating. I would like to note that I am not a vegan (so I apologize if I offend any vegans out there), nor I would say my eating habits are the best but I am here to just share my experience and tips and hope somebody out there might find this piece of information useful. ๐Ÿ™‚

How did I started all these small adjustments in my life by incorporating healthy eating and stay fit by doing regular exercises? It all goes back to last year when my health wasn’t at its best shape and my acne started getting worse. I found out I had tachycardia and my period cycle was super messed up. I think it has a lot to do with stress. I was constantly stressing about classes because third year of medical school was the toughest. I wasn’t eating the best food, I stayed up very late almost every night, constantly stressing about studies and personal life. And I believe all of this took a toll on my skin. And I’ve decided that enough is enough, I need to do something about it.

I started doing this last Spring which is about few months back. Every morning I incorporate green juice/smoothie for breakfast. I would have avocado egg toast with my smoothie too on days when I am not lazy. ๐Ÿ˜› ย green juice is packed with antioxidant and it is super good for your skin. I noticed as I do this regularly, my skin appeared less angry and inflamed.

Ingredients:

  • One whole banana.
  • Some frozen blueberries.
  • One/two strawberries.
  • Some frozen pineapples.
  • One/two frozen plums.
  • A handful of spinach.
  • A dash of water.

Obviously you can create your own combination which you prefer. I normally get my fruits in the frozen department because fresh fruits are much more expensive here in Russia especially during off seasons. And this is a great smoothie for those who dislike vegetables. You wouldn’t even know I’ve added spinach inside if I did not tell you about it. My roommate hates green but I got her hooked on this recipe. We all need our fibers to help us to go number 2 in the toilet. ๐Ÿ˜›

As Autumn/Winter is approaching a warm and hearty breakfast is my ย go to! And around this season I will switch my smoothie to evening snack/pre workout drink. But for the colder months, I love instant oats and sometimes I will go with a whole banana. It really depends on what I feel like that morning. But to be very honest with you I am not a breakfast kind of person but I try to make some small changes.

I’ve been trying to prep my own meal more often rather than eating out during lunch. Of course sometimes I do eat out but I save a lot of money by preparing my own meal. This week I bought some frozen fish fillets with my boyfriend. We usually have lunch together. So normally we will take turns to cook.

Ingredients:

  • Any oil of your choice.
  • Fish fillet. (depending on portion)
  • A clove to two cloves of garlic.
  • Onion.
  • Salt and pepper.
  • A dash of lemon juice.
  • Potatoes. (depending on portion)
  • One tomatoes.

First I will fry up some potatoes until golden brown, then I will add in the chopped up garlic and onion. Fry them til fragrance. Next, I will add in the fish fillet and let it sit each sides for a few minutes. Add in some salt and pepper. I’ll then close the lid to let it cook for a few minutes. Then, add in lemon juice and tomatoes. Lastly, you’re ready to serve! ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s my take for lunch. Quick and easy. Usually we prefer fish for lunch because we normally have chicken for dinner. Sometimes we will go for baked salmon. So it just depends on what we feel like having that week. ๐Ÿ™‚

Normally I will take turns to cook with my housemates for dinner. But on days when I decided to eat clean/nobody is eating dinner, this is my ideal dinner.

Ingredients:

  • Chicken breast.
  • Pasta of your choice.
  • Sweet potatoes and carrots. (these are leftovers that I decided to add inside)
  • Few cloves of garlic/garlic powder.
  • Salt and pepper.
  • Spinach.

Basically I just pan fry the chicken breast and pasta. At the same time I steam up the sweet potatoes and carrots as well. It was definitely a lovely and filling dinner.

I’ll normally end my night with a cup of tea. Usually I’ll either go for green tea or chamomile tea. As I’ve said previously I was very stressed up last year and most of the time having disturbed sleep, chamomile tea helped me a lot. It took away my insomnia days. Recently I started having disturbed sleep again, I better run out and get more chamomile tea as I’ve ran out of stock. And not to forget, I’ll try to drink at least 1L-2L of water everyday. Definitely noticed a difference when I am dehydrated.

Of course, not everyday is perfect like this. Me eating healthy and everything. I have days where I eat snacks, sweets, chocolates and junk food. But when I overdo them it definitely shows on my skin. ๐Ÿ™ But seeing the progress of my health and skin, I am very happy to be in a position of where I am right now. Even though I look back at old pictures just taken about half a year ago, it still hurts me. Acne definitely made me very insecure and lowered my self confidence. But I will make a post on it soon when I am ready. ๐Ÿ™‚
